After having thoroughly analyzed the calendar of the various national leagues concerned and with the aim of identifying a solution that would be suitable – as far as possible – to the needs of the four participating teams, the European Volleyball Confederation is pleased to inform that the final four of the 2009/2010 CEV Indesit Champions League has been re-scheduled for next May 1-2 and will take place at the Atlas Arena in Lodz as it was initially foreseen.
“We address our sincere gratitude to all National Federations and to their respective clubs for their contribution and their availability in looking for a solution that was likely to suit to the needs of the various parties concerned. Moreover, we would also like to sincerely thank the Polish Volleyball Federation and the club of PGE Skra BELCHATOW who expressed their intention to re-stage the event after the difficult circumstances they had been going through last weekend” says CEV President André Meyer.
All additional details, including a re-defined match program, will be communicated in the coming days. “We really appreciate your understanding for this decision and we fully rely on your help for the next actions to be undertaken as we all share the common ambition to stage a memorable and stellar event” concludes CEV President André Meyer in his address to the National Federations and the clubs.
The final four of this year’s CEV Indesit Champions League was cancelled this past Saturday, April 10, after the plane crash that caused the death of Polish President Lech Kaczynski and many other Polish high officials on their way to attend an official ceremony to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Katyn massacre.
In about two weeks the Italians of TRENTINO BetClic will try to double the trophy they seized last year in Prague but will first have a tough job in the semifinal against Slovenia's sensation ACH Volley BLED, whereas the local heroes of PGE Skra BELCHATOW will vie for a spot in the final match against Russian powerhouse Dinamo MOSCOW.
Additional note for media and journalists: the accreditations released for the final four initially scheduled for April 10-11 are considered to be valid only as long as the concerned people will drop a confirmation of their attendance in Lodz on May 1-2 with a short message to be addressed to
